Liverpool could break unwritten rule to keep Jurgen Klopp for another season as ‘stumbling block’ revealed

Liverpool could keep Jurgen Klopp for another season should they complete a major piece of transfer business.

On Monday it emerged that Kylian Mbappe’s expected move from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid had hit a “stumbling block.”

The Independentclaimed Mbappe and Real Madrid are struggling to agree on a wage packet, with an agreement remaining some way off.

In turn, Mbappe’s representation is said to have explored moves to Liverpool and Arsenal, but neither Premier League outfit wants to break their wage structure to sign the France skipper at present.

Of course, Liverpool have expressed an interest in Mbappe in the past, while Klopp has also publicly sung the France skipper’s praises on several occasions.

Last year, amid reports linking Liverpool with a move for Mbappe, Klopp toldSky Germany: “We laugh about it. I can say that I think he is a really good player. But the financial framework conditions don’t suit us at all.”

Meanwhile, Mbappe expressed his admiration for Liverpool and Klopp in the past. He told theMirrorin 2020: “This season Liverpool have been a machine in the Premier League.

“They have made winning look easy – but the truth is that is never easy. To be as ruthless as they have been would come from having a very good manager and lots of hard work in training. Performances like they have been having don’t just happen.”

In the unlikely scenario Liverpool were to break their wage structure to sign Mbappe, it could help the club’s chances of keeping Klopp for another season.

The German stunned the football world in January by announcing he is set to depart the Reds at the end of the season, irrespective of what happens during the rest of the campaign.

But could the prospect of managing arguably the world’s best player, still some years away from the peak of his powers, entice Klopp to reconsider?
