Man United star set for huge pay rise after stunning FORM

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez is set for a huge pay rise at the club after a stunning first season at Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old Argentinian international was signed by Erik ten Hag during his first transfer window in charge of the club, as he secured a £55 million transfer from his former employer Ajax.

Since then Martinez, also known as The Butcher, has gone on to make 45 appearances in red and has played a major role in the resurgence of the club as they secured Carabao Cup glory and currently find themselves occupying the final Champions League spot in the Premier League.

A stunning season has since been cut short after suffering a fractured metatarsal during the 2-2 draw with Sevilla in the Europa League last month, ruling the defender out for the remaining fixtures throughout the 2022/23 campaign.

Taking to his personal social media accounts following the set back, Martinez said: “Not the way I imagined what’s been a very special season would end, but sometimes we face obstacles along the way that we have to overcome to make us stronger and we learn from them. I know that I’ll be back soon to go for more.

“In the meantime, I’ll continue to support my team-mates to achieve our objectives. The messages and support I’ve received has been amazing, they’re giving me strength and encouragement. Thanks to you all from the bottom of my heart.”

However, despite the severe injury, Martinez is now set to be rewarded for his fine form this season as United look to offer the player an additional £50,000 per-week on top of his current £120,000 deal, according toEPL Index.

United will look to offer the substantial pay increases but will not offer a new contract at this point in time, due to the player already being tied down to a four-year-deal having only arrived last summer.
