Man United’s Erik ten Hag sack plans revealed following Bayern Munich defeat

Manchester United’s plan to replace Erik ten Hag amid their slump has been revealed, according to a report.

Man United crashed out of Europe all together following their 1-0 home defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday, meaning a loss of £28 million.

It’s back-to-back defeats for Ten Hag’s team, having suffered a crushing 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth last weekend.

The 53-year-old, who was appointed in April 2022, is under fire, with incoming investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe meeting with a manager ahead of a shock appointment at Old Trafford.

According toThe Sun, Ratcliffe has met with Graham Potter and favours him as a replacement if he sacks the Dutchman.

Potter has been out of work since his Chelsea dismissal in April. He was linked with the then-vacancies at Rangers and Nice but remains available.

The 48-year-old made his name at Brighton, where he delivered managerial heroics – guiding the club to their then-highest finish in the Premier League table, ending the campaign in ninth place.

Ten Hag, meanwhile, faces another daunting challenge as Man United resume their league campaign against Liverpool on Sunday.

He’ll be hoping for a response following his side’s defeat against the German giants.

Speaking after the European defeat, he said: “The team did very good, we were very good defensively and in the pressing. We had many ball regains, especially second half. But then we didn’t take enough benefit from it – we were playing against a strong side.

“Bayern always, even when they are not in the game, have enough individual class to produce one moment – and that’s what happened.

“We know we want to be more consistent. Me as a manager, I have to improve the team, help the team progress, guide them, and the players have to take responsibility.

“We have to do that together.”
