It seems like Anthony Martial has been at Manchester United for an eternity and is now one of the longest-serving players in the current squad.
The 27-year-old was brought to Old Trafford back in 2015 by former United boss Louis van Gaal and had a promising first season in England, scoring 17 goals in all competitions after his initial £36m transfer from Monaco.
Since then, Martial has played under a string of managers at United, including Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick and now Erik ten Hag.
Overall, it’s probably fair to say that Martial has not fulfilled the potential that his early career has promised, and has scored 89 goals for United in 312 appearances.
So far this campaign, Martial has scored just once in 14 games, though he is far from the only United forward player who is struggling to find the back of the net this season.
Yesterday at Craven Cottage, United picked up a much needed three points thanks to a late winner scored by Bruno Fernandes, which secured a 1-0 victory against Fulham in the Premier League.
Martial came off the bench in the 79th minute as he replaced summer signing Rasmus Hojlund upfront.
The late winner sparked jubilant scenes among the United players on the pitch, and in the away end among the travelling supporters.
Martial has never been the most expressive player when it comes to rapturous celebrations – but it was probably summed it quite well in the late win over Fulham.
When Fernandes nets the winner, almost all United players on the pitch raise their arms in celebration and sprint over to the Portuguese star, but Martial merely jogged over.
And, according to theDaily Express, some United fans were angry with Martial after he was spotted going straight down the tunnel at Craven Cottage at full-time, rather than staying out on the pitch to celebrate the late winner with the fans and his team-mates.
Martial’s contract at United is poised to run out next summer, though the club has the option to extend the deal by a further 12 months.
