Marcus Rashford team-mate says ‘something isn’t right’ with Man Utd star and believes there’s ‘more to it’

One of Marcus Rashford’s England team-mates believes that ‘something isn’t right’ with the Manchester United star.

Rashford missed Sunday’s FA Cup clash against League Two side Newport County, which United won 4-2, through illness. He had been absent from training due to illness on Friday.

Manager Erik ten Hag confirmed it was an ‘internal matter’ and said he would ‘deal with it’, although refused to elaborate on whether disciplinary proceedings would be opened.

Rashford was in the Northern Irish capital of Belfast on Wednesday – a scheduled day off for the first team squad – with a report fromThe Athletic claiming that, as well as being seen out on that evening, he also attended a nightclub the following evening.

In aclub statement, United said: “Marcus has taken responsibility for his actions. This has been dealt with as an internal disciplinary matter, which is now closed.”

The England forward is now in contention to return to Ten Hag’s squad for their trip to take on Wolves in the Premier League on Thursday.

But international team-mate Conor Coady is concerned about Rashford.

Speaking onBBC’s Monday Night Club podcast, Coady explained: “Seeing him like this, it doesn’t seem right to me. I think something isn’t quite there that we don’t know about.

“Sometimes it’s hard to have a judgment on somebody when we don’t know. I just think there’s more to it.

“Whether that’s Marcus, whether that’s people at United not looking after him, whether that’s him not looking after himself. I don’t know what the actual answer is.

“It’s hard to put my finger on it, knowing him and spending time in his company and being with England, and not seeing him like that.

“Sitting down and having a coffee with him, and seeing him being a top fella and speaking about United. Seeing these things in the press, you’re looking at it and thinking, ‘What’s going on?’

“We all agree that the things coming out about Marcus is something we’re all looking at and [thinking they] aren’t right and that there’s something wrong.”
