The former West Ham star reacted angrily, launching the bottle back where it came from which prompted a mini riot.

Nice fans entered the field of play and attempted to confront the Marseille team.

The situation eventually eased, but not without some brutal blemishes suffered by three Marseille players.

Peres and Guendouzi showed off their ‘strangle marks’ following the brawl and it does not look pleasant.

Nice were leading Marseille 1-0 at the time of the remarkable scenes, with the game abandoned in the 76th minute after the away side refused to resume the match.

Under LFP (Ligue de Football Professionel) rules, Nice should be awarded a 3-0 win as Marseille have failed to complete the rest of the fixture.

But reports claim Marseille will take action with the LFP to get this reversed.

Speaking after the despicable scenes, Marseille president Pablo Longoria said: “We need to set precedents for French football.

“The referee was with us, he confirmed that to us, that safety was not assured.

“His decision was to abandon the match, but the LFP decided to restart the match. It is not acceptable for us.”
