It seems that the English midfielder, Mason Mount, did not have a great start at Old Trafford during Manchester United’s Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Despite United’s victory, the article highlights that the overall performance of the team was not very strong, and Mount, who was making his league debut for the Red Devils, particularly struggled.
He is singled out for his poor performance, which likely wasn’t the debut he had hoped for.
In contrast, Andre Onana, who made his debut as the new goalkeeper for Manchester United, had a more solid outing.
Despite a late penalty scare, where he potentially could have given away a penalty, Onana received positive feedback for his performance, as he was rated as the second-best player in the team according to WhoScored.
Overall, while Manchester United managed to secure a 1-0 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers, both the team as a whole and Mason Mount individually faced challenges and did not have the strongest start to the Premier League season.
His statistics have gone viral
Unfortunately for Mount, his move to Old Trafford was one of the biggest deals of the summer, so there was plenty of attention paid closely to the shift he put in during his debut, and it didn’t go well.
In fact, TalkSport has shared the Englishman’s statistics against Gary O’Neil’s side, and it will make for tough reading for United fans.
Mason Mount vs Wolves
0 goals
0 assists
0 chances created
0 crosses
0 tackles won
0 accurate crosses
0 aerial duels won pic.twitter.com/Rksf9AIDnk— talkSPORT (@talkSPORT) August 14, 2023
Not pretty, is it? Despite playing for just over an hour, Mount contributed next to nothing for United and was largely absent in the middle of the park. Of course, it’s still very early doors, and nothing to worry about too much just yet, but to have recorded 0 chances created, 0 crosses and 0 tackles won especially isn’t very comforting for the Old Trafford faithful.
A video package of his ‘highlights’ has emerged on YouTube, and it’s about as close to clutching straws as you can get, with the video featuring very little to be too impressed about, largely showcasing several fairly average passes made by the former Chelsea man.
Once more, he wasn’t the sole Manchester United player who encountered difficulties against Wolves, indicating that his performance should not be excessively criticized. However, his WhoScored match rating of 6.25 stands out, a score surpassing only four of the 16 players involved in the match. This undeniably places him among those who had one of the poorest performances on the entire team.
Mason Mount didn’t even manage a shot during the game, and his single interception appears to be the solitary positive contribution he made throughout his debut. It’s clear that this wasn’t the ideal way for him to initiate his Premier League journey at Old Trafford.
It follows a worrying trend of lacklustre performances in pre-season from the midfielder, who hasn’t quite impressed anyone just yet since his move to United, and while it’s important to show patience when a new signing stumbles a little out of the blocks, it’s hard not to worry considering how little he’s shown so far.
