Nine Chelsea players face axe this summer as Liverpool’s attraction to Mason Mount grows

According to reports, Chelsea is prepared to offload up to nine of their first-team players during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Since taking over the reins at Stamford Bridge last year, American businessman Todd Boehly has been investing heavily in the team to rebuild the squad.

So far, Boehly has spent £600 million on signing 17 new players, and with the summer transfer window fast approaching, Chelsea is looking to reduce the size of their extensive squad.

According to theDaily Mirror, as many as nine players are facing an uncertain future at the club.

To balance the books and comply with Financial Fair Play regulations, Chelsea is considering the possibility of offloading England trio Mason Mount, Conor Gallagher, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Recent reports have linked Mount with a move to Premier League rivals Liverpool, who are expected to make signings in the upcoming transfer window.

Additionally, French midfielder N’Golo Kante could also be among those facing the axe, as his current contract with the club is set to expire at the end of the 2022-23 season, and he has yet to come to terms on a new deal.

In addition to the aforementioned players, midfielder Mateo Kovacic may also be put on the market, given that he will be entering the final year of his contract and Chelsea may choose to capitalize on his value.

Meanwhile, it appears that striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s time at the club is coming to an end, as he has fallen out of favor with the team and has only scored once in 13 Premier League appearances.

Morrocan winger Hakim Ziyech is also believed to be certain to seek a move elsewhere after finding his opportunities limited.

There are doubts over American Christian Pulisic’s future, the winger has struggled to nail down a place in the starting eleven and could leave in the summer.

Regarding Romelu Lukaku, a decision on the Belgian’s future has yet to be made, as he is currently on loan with Inter Milan and it appears unlikely that he will remain with Chelsea.

The season has been a tumultuous one for Chelsea, with Thomas Tuchel being relieved of his duties in September, followed by the dismissal of his successor Graham Potter earlier this month.

Now, it is up to club legend Frank Lampard to restore stability to the team for the remainder of the season.
