Jamie Carragher was ridiculed when trying to pronounce Olivier Giroud’s name.
On Tuesday, AC Milan secured a crucial 2-1 Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain, courtesy of Giroud’s thumping header five minutes into the second half.
Their win means Milan, last season’s semi-finalists, remain in contention to reach the knockout stages when they host Dortmund at the end of the month.
And after the game Giroud took to CBS to talk about Milan’s performance and his winner.
But as the conversation came to a close, presenter Kate Abdo cheekily asked the France international: “I’m just wondering, does it annoy you how Jamie Carragher pronounces your name? Olivier Girood.”
Giroud generously responded: “No, Olivier Girood, they’ve been calling me that for nine years in the Premier League – ”
Carragher then interjected: “Tell me your name. Let’s pronounce it. I need education.”
Giroud replied, pronouncing the ‘R’ in his surname from the back of his throat: “Well, in French it’s ‘Olivier Giroud.’”
Abdo and Micah Richards then attempted the proper pronunciation of Giroud’s name, with relative success.
Then Carragher had a go.

He said, “Olivier Giloud”, to which the former Arsenal forward responded: “No, no. Not with an ‘L’. Not ‘Giloud’. ‘Giroud.’”
Carragher had another crack.
“Olivier Giwoud”, the former Liverpool defender said.
Laughing, a stunned Giroud replied: “No. No ‘W’. Not ‘Giwoud.’”
Carragher had one final attempt, that sent the entire panel into laughter and Richards to cover his face with a sheet of paper.
He announced: “GIwoo!”
