Osasuna face La Liga punishment after their fans chant at Mason Greenwood on Getafe debut

Osasuna fans are facing potential punishment for their offensive chants directed at Mason Greenwood during his debut for Getafe.

Greenwood, 21, made his first appearance for Getafe after joining the club on loan from Manchester United for the season. This game marked his return to competitive football following his arrest in January 2022.

In his debut, Greenwood contributed to his team’s 3-2 victory, which propelled them to ninth place in the league table. However, it appears that some Osasuna fans engaged in derogatory chants aimed at Greenwood during the match, prompting concerns about disciplinary action.

Although the decision to sign him remains controversial and led to criticism from a domestic abuse charity in Spain, Greenwood has been received extremely positively and was loudly cheered by his new supporters when he entered the fray in the 77th minute.

However, fans of opponents Osasuna Getafe fans were chanting “Greenwood, die” in the away section of the ground when Greenwood came on at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez. You can Watch Below…

According toThe Athletic, La Liga’s official match observer heard the chants and a disciplinary process will begin once he feeds back.

The outlet asked Osasuna’s manager, Jagoba Arrasate, about the chants and while he condemned them, he also pointed out songs from the home fans.

“The chants of ‘F**k Osasuna’ were very bad and the chants against Greenwood were very bad too,” he commented post-match.

“He is a player who, in the end, the justice system had its say.

“He is a very good player. But if we talk about chants, we should talk about all the chants, not just some.”
