A video capturing Sergio Aguero’s reaction to his former Argentina teammate Lionel Messi has gained widespread attention.
Having been compatriots for numerous years on the Argentina national team, Aguero and Messi enjoyed a successful partnership, culminating in their joint victory at the Copa America in 2021.
Sergio Aguero, a Manchester City icon, was compelled to retire from professional football later that same year due to health concerns. This development transpired just six months after he had joined Barcelona, Messi’s beloved childhood club.
Sergio Aguero and Lionel Messi didn’t have the chance to collaborate at club level, and currently, Messi is plying his trade for MLS side Inter Miami, situated outside of Europe.
In his new environment, Messi has quickly established himself, aiding David Beckham’s team in securing their inaugural trophy in the Leagues Cup.
Messi initiated the scoring in the match after 23 minutes. Despite Nashville equalizing later in the game and leading to a penalty shootout, Messi displayed his familiarity with shootouts, reminiscent of his World Cup triumph in Qatar with Argentina. In the shootout, Messi confidently converted the first penalty, with Inter Miami eventually prevailing 9-10 in the shootout.
A video, reposted on social media by a fan, captured the reaction of Messi’s former teammate, Aguero, to this victorious feat.

He celebrated when the final penalty was saved, showing the wholesome friendship that the pair have.
Other fans loved the passion with one saying: “Friendship goals. Love seeing legends support each other.”
Another responded: “Aguero has always been a real one.”
Messi’s contract in America runs until 2025 and is already having a massive impact on the popularity of the sport in a country that will host the World Cup in 2026.

It’s fitting that the Argentine chose to play for Inter Miami, owned by Beckham – whose move to MLS back in 2007 was pivotal for the sport’s growth in the country.
Messi has now won 44 major honours in his glittering career. Nex up for he and Inter is a US Open Cup semi-final against FC Cincinnati on Thursday.
