TNT Sports committed a major blunder during Chelsea’s 3-2 victory over Luton Town.
Despite a late push from Luton, Chelsea managed to secure the win, ending a streak of four consecutive away defeats and concluding 2023 on a positive note.
The Blues, who have faced challenges in the Premier League this year with 19 losses, took a commanding lead with a Cole Palmer brace and a powerful strike from Noni Madueke.
However, ex-Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley’s near-post header and Elijah Adebayo’s subsequent goal for Luton added tension in the closing stages.
Despite the drama, Chelsea held on to secure their first three points on the road since November 6.
During the match, eagle-eyed TNT Sports viewers noticed a scoreboard blunder when, after Barkley’s goal, the network mistakenly displayed the score as 4-0 in favor of Chelsea.
Within seconds, however, the mistake was rectified and the correct 3-1 scoreline was on screen.
Nevertheless, the mistake didn’t go unnoticed.
Writing on X, the social media platform formally known as Twitter, one fan said: “TNT Sports momentarily giving the goal to Chelsea.”
Another added: “TNT really thought Barkley scored for Chelsea.”
After the game, Pochettino praised his side for the performance and ability to grind out a result.
The Chelsea boss said viaSky Sports: “I am so pleased, I think it’s never easy, we needed to win and we controlled the game until the second half, about 60-65 minutes. It was a positive performance, I’m so happy. But when you concede it increases the opponent’s belief.
“You can see it’s difficult to play here, you’ve seen it against other teams – Liverpool, Newcastle, Arsenal. They have very good players and a very good coach, we needed the three points and we got what we wanted.
“Football is always about emotions, emotion that when you are winning 3-0 you are nervous because different situations can happen. Then we conceded a goal, their belief increased, and in the Premier League too many times that happened. Brighton were winning 4-0 against Tottenham and it was 4-2, the Premier League is tough.”
