During the 2023 Rugby World Cup opener between France and New Zealand, Kylian Mbappe appeared to be somewhat perplexed.
France began their 2023 Rugby World Cup campaign on a high note by staging a remarkable comeback to defeat New Zealand in a thrilling match held in Paris. The showdown was anticipated as one of the standout games in the group stage, featuring two of the top contenders for the tournament title, and spectators at Stade de France were treated to a spectacular contest.
France, maintaining an unbeaten home record since 2021, held the advantage at halftime. However, The All Blacks briefly seized the lead just after halftime with a try by Mark Telea.
Nevertheless, the French team refused to concede defeat and dominated the final 25 minutes of the game. Damian Penaud’s try in the 55th minute allowed Les Bleus to regain the lead, and from that point forward, they never looked back. Two successful penalties by Thomas Ramos extended France’s lead to 22-13 with only six minutes remaining. The All Blacks made a valiant effort to get back into the game, but Fabien Galthié’s team sealed the victory when Melvyn Jaminet forced the ball over the try line in the dying minutes of the match.
Video of Kylian Mbappe during France vs New Zealand goes viral
Among those in attendance at the Stade de France were France football players, Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembele and Dayot Upamecano. The quartet are currently on international duty but were in the crowd to show their support. Footage of Mbappe during the game has gone viral.
A video posted by the officialRugby World Cup Twitteraccount shows the home French crowd bursting into celebration during the game. Griezmann is among the players that shared his delight as he jumped up in the air and waved a France flag. Mbappe looked rather confused, though, and only throws his hands up in the air after a few seconds after everyone else did the same. After a brief smile, the 24-year-old looked around and clapped, again with an apparent look of confusion.
