Burnley striker Wout Weghorst has shared an emotional farewell message to Manchester United following his loan spell at Old Trafford last season.
The Dutch striker joined United on loan in January, as manager Erik ten Hag navigated Financial Fair Play (FFP) restrictions that limited major player signings.
Weghorst, standing tall at 6ft 6in and known for his hold-up abilities, was brought in to provide a new attacking dimension for United.
While he initially showed promise with solid performances, his lack of goals raised concerns as his form wavered.
In his 17 Premier League appearances, he failed to score, managing only two goals in 31 games across all competitions.
Ultimately, United chose not to make his loan deal permanent, leading Weghorst to return to Burnley ahead of the new season.
On Instagram, he expressed his gratitude and bid farewell to his former club.

Alongside a montage of his best moments in a United shirt, Weghorst said: “Dear Manchester United fans. Thank you for everything.
“I really enjoyed every single second at this club, from winning silverware to scoring my first goal against Betis at Old Trafford.
“Dreams came true. Unbelievably proud to wear the badge. I wish you all the best for the future. Manchester United fans, thank you very much.”
He then played a Manchester United-themed rendition of ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’ as he showcased more of his favourite memories.

Wout Weghorst’s immediate future at Burnley under manager Vincent Kompany remains uncertain.
The striker revealed that he had an agreement with Burnley that he would not play in the Championship last season after their relegation.
This agreement has left him unpopular among Burnley fans, and he even faced boos during a pre-season match at Turf Moor.
Burnley is currently lacking options for central strikers, with Lyle Foster, a South Africa international, temporarily filling the role during pre-season.
Additionally, former Southampton striker Michael Obafemi is currently sidelined due to injury.
As a result, discussions are expected to take place between Weghorst and the club regarding his role and future at Burnley for the upcoming season.
