Xavi unleashed a brutal X-rated rant at a match referee during Barcelona’s big win over Las Palmas on Thursday.
Barca came from behind to beat Las Palmas 2-1 as Ilkay Gundogan scored his side’s winner from the spot deep, deep into stoppage time.
Despite securing three points, Xavi was fuming with Gonzalez Fuertes as he made his feelings clear on the sideline.
With his team trailing, Sergio Roberto was tripped by Mika Marmol, but Fuertes did not give a foul to the frustration of the player.
Roberto reacted angrily as he remonstrated furiously, which saw him pick up a booking for dissent. He also gave the four official a piece of his mind.
The decision not to award Barca a penalty angered Xavi, who ‘protested vigorously’, according toMarca, who claimed he slapped himself in the face to show his frustration.
Marca also reveal that Xavi told Fuertes ‘I f**king sh*t on your mother’ – a comment which ‘should have led to a red card’, per the Spanish outlet.
Fuertes brandished his yellow card to seven players and sent off Las Palmas’ Daley Sinkgraven in stoppage time.
Xavi could be punished for his rant as he faces a potential ban.
The 43-year-old has been under pressure because of some disappointing results this season and continued to rant during his post-match press conference.
Asked if his team have a chance to win the league title, he replied: “Absolutely.”
He then posed his own question as he made reference to Girona’s 4-3 victory over Atletico Madrid, saying: “Did you watch the league games yesterday?
“We won at the last moment with a penalty. We have arguments [to win La Liga]. The first is that we are the reigning champions. Respect for the reigning champion,” he added.
Barca resume their league campaign on January 21 when they travel to Real Betis.
