Man United Facing Group of Death As Best And Worst Champions League Draw Revealed

Manchester United will discover their Champions League group opponents on Thursday as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to make an impact on the tournament this year.

Despite having some victories against some great opponents in the tournament since Solskjaer became manager in 2019, United have not ultimately performed well on the European stage.

After this humiliating exit from the Champions League, United were unable to rectify this in the Europa League after losing to Villareal in the final last May.

Therefore, Solskjaer is keen to set the record straight and start well in Europe this year and he will hope that the draw will be kind to the club this year.

The pots for the draw are as follows:

Pot 1: Chelsea, Villarreal, Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Lille, Sporting Lisbon.

Pot 2: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund.

Pot 3: Porto, Ajax, RB Leipzig, Atalanta, Zenit Saint Petersburg.

Pot 4: Club Brugge, Young Boys or Ferencvaros, AC Milan, Ludogorets or Malmo, Wolfsburg.

Pot 3 or 4: Shakhtar Donetsk or Monaco, RB Salzburg or Brondby, Benfica or PSV, Besiktas, Dynamo Kyiv, Dinamo Zagreb or Sheriff Tiraspol.

As Manchester United are unable to face a team from their own country in the group stages, their best possible group would be Sporting Lisbon, Dynamo Kyiv and Malmo.

However, there is also a possibility that the Red Devils could face Robert Lewandowski’s Bayern Munich, A.C Milan and Porto, who were the team that caused a shock in last year’s quarter-finals and defeated Juventus.

Luckily for Solskjaer, as United are in the same pot as Paris Saint-Germain, they will not have to face the deadly attack of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

However, as Manchester United have not won the Champions League since 2008, there is increasing pressure for the club to make an impact in the tournament.
