Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has added Varane to his defensive armoury with the hope that this will help the club challenge for major trophies this season.

During his time in Madrid, Varane was a vital member of the squad which lead the team towards four Champions Leagues and started every game in France’s journey to winning the World Cup in 2018.

After his unveiling, he spoke with Manchester United and revealed why it was important for him to do his first interview in English: “It’s difficult for me to do this interview in English, but I have to try!

“I think it’s very important to be close to the fans because we have the same objective – it’s important for me to be comfortable with my team-mates and with the coach.”

The former Real Madrid player added: “This opportunity [to join Manchester United] was amazing for me, so I chose this change for me and my family.

“They have come with me. You feel when things are a good moment and this was the right moment.

“I’m very happy and very excited to start this new journey for me. It was a very good adventure with my old club, but now it’s a new start for me and I’m very happy to be here.”

Varane was reportedly very keen to join Manchester United this summer as it has always been a dream to play in the Premier League.
